Example of a PL log in a Single Phase Horizontal Well
This horizontal well was logged with memory PL tools deployed on coiled tubing. Having produced over 8 million bbls of oil, the well was producing 100% water with a trace of oil. The log was run to locate the source of water production.
The results from the logging show that over 400m of the perforations are producing, and for 5000 BPD flow drawdown was only 5 psi. With strong water drive the oil/water contact, which was originally 20m below the well (vertical well data), has now moved up to submerge the entire well. A trace of oil can be seen as a shift of the capacitance data towards higher frequency at the highest point in the well at 2400m MDRKB. Based on this data, there is the possibility of planning a sidetrack to tap attic oil. The variations in pressure are a reflection of changes in vertical depth.
