The MCP is the surface panel, required to power and control the Downhole Tractor (MDT) or Downhole Electric Cutting Tool (DECT) via the integrated modem and power supply and an external PC.
Description
The control panel runs off mains power and controls the functions and power supply to operate the Tractor or DECT. The MCP is connected to the winch collector and logging cable. The surface panel has four controls – mains on/off switch, voltage control dial, function switch and safety interlock switch. In combination with a laptop computer, and the tool specific software, the logging engineer has full control of a Tractor or DECT.
The voltage control dial adjusts the supply voltage for setting the tractor tool clutch, drive arm opening and speed control during tractor operation. It is used for setting the anchor arms and speed control during DECT operation. Power cannot be applied by this control unless the spring biased interlock switch has also been operated. The function switch allows passenger panels to be connected to passenger tools for logging. Currently it is not possible simultaneously to log passenger tools whilst tractoring. During tractor and DECT operations, all parameters can be monitored and recorded via the laptop. Almost any PC can be used; a notebook model is ideal. During operations a single display is displayed. This provides control over Tractor functions and a full monitoring of its status during tractoring.
