The DECT is the first pipe severing tool which meets industry demands for safe, high precision and reliable equipment to cleanly cut tubulars, without using hazardous chemicals or explosives.
Description
The DECT can be Wireline or Tractor deployed. Depth correlation is achieved by means of its own integral digital CCL, an additional analogue (shooting type) CCL or by the addition of a spacer sub incorporating a No-Go device. DECT operation is controlled by means of a notebook PC and surface control panel. Once the tool is positioned on depth, anchors are set and the cutting operation is initiated. The rotating cutting head is at the bottom of the tool and its outputs are monitored at surface. Where a precise depth of cut is required the travel of the cutting tip can be limited. Approximate cutting time in 5in, 19.5lb/ft drill pipe is 3 1/2 minutes.
