Head Tension Unit (HTU)

The Head Tension Unit (HTU) is normally positioned between the cable head and main logging tools to measure downhole tension and compression. These can be used to monitor potential weakpoint and logging cable breakage or toolstring damage.

Description

During logging operations with coiled tubing or with wireline in bad hole conditions, it is essential to have the ability to detect and measure tension to avoid breaking the weak point or logging cable, or to measure compression to avoid damage to the logging tools. Running a HTU in the toolstring provides the logging engineer with early indications of over-pull, tool drag, stuck tools, tool compression, and irregular, or yo-yo, tool movement.

Features

  • Early indication of over-pull, key seating and tool sticking.
  • Fully combinable with all UltrawireTM Logging Tools.
  • Suitable for all well deviations.
  • Measurement range of standard tool -400kg to +1200kg.
  • Applicable for surface read-out logging operations.
