Segregated Flow in Deviated & Horizontal Wells
Phase segregation occurs in many wells, even those with little deviation from vertical; the lighter phases migrate to the high side of the well, the heavier phases to the low side. This segregation results in the phases travelling at different velocities. If the individual phase hold-ups and velocities can be measured then it is possible to calculate the volumetric flow of each phase and thus provide vital information for reservoir management.
